Schleuniger Provides Consistent Quality That iRex Can Depend On
04/15/2020
“Many of our customers call for tolerances that Schleuniger machines can provide with consistency."

iRex Group, founded in 1995, is a custom cable assembly house located in Austin, TX. The company specializes in custom cabling solutions, serving a wide range of industries including automotive, aerospace, military, and energy. Because iRex regularly works on highly-sophisticated assemblies, it is important that they have the right equipment in place to accurately process their applications. Prior to working with Schleuniger, iRex was using a small mix of wire processing equipment from another supplier.

In 2004, iRex Group purchased their first piece of Schleuniger equipment. As the company has grown, they have expanded from simple benchtop wire stripping machines to fully automatic wire processing lines for cutting and stripping cable. “Schleuniger products have become an essential part of our process,” explains Denny Hean, Engineering Supervisor at iRex. The company continuously balances speed and precision to ensure they are providing the volumes of cable at the level of quality their customers have come to expect. “Many of our customers call for tolerances that Schleuniger machines can provide with consistency. It’s these same quality tolerances that have benefited the production and QC areas of our system by reducing the amount of cabling needing rework,” adds Hean. The company now owns Schleuniger benchtop wire stripping machines for discrete wire and coaxial cables, a MultiStrip 9480 cut and strip machine and several semi-automatic stripping and crimping machines.

While it’s difficult for Hean to quantify the effect Schleuniger machines have had on the company’s overall manufacturing efforts, he is sure that they have “saved hundreds of man-hours and consequently thousands of dollars in productivity!”

When asked about the future of the wire processing industry, Hean predicts that wire processing will continue to be the bedrock upon which all new technology will be built. “With an emphasis on speed and reliability, both iRex and Schleuniger can look forward to an increased role within the growing markets of spaceflight, internet of things, and an increasingly complex automotive industry,” adds Hean.

“At iRex, we pride ourselves on the level of quality and speed at which we provide custom cable solutions and we thank the folks at Schleuniger for their constant support in providing quality products to our customers.”
