Cable Printing with System

For identification the cables are marked with the manufacturer’s details such as name, logo or the cable code. For traceability, a dynamic time indication like order coding or manufacturing date must be marked. Basic variables involved in the printing of this information are material and geometry of the cable surface, variations in the printing ink and production output.

Cayman PC Software

Gone are the times where letters had to be carefully assembled on a line. Now programming is done easily on the PC and can be imported through the COM-Interface from other programs. Cayman automatically takes over the dynamic management of the printing content. The PowerStrip 9500 precisely calculates the printing positions on the cable and executes it perfectly. The solution runs on printing machines designed by leading manufacturers working with basically two different printing methods.

• Thermo-Transfer-Printer
  
  With this system, using a special designed printing head the color not used is removed from the color foil onto a transfer foil. Using heat, the text that remains on the color foil is then printed onto the cable. The advantages are high resolutiuon prints of 300 dpi (optional 600 dpi) as well as a large selection of different color foils for marking PVC, PP, PUR, PE, and ABS insulations. The costs for such a system lies within the price range of standard inkjet solutions.
  
  
  
  The high flexibility in material and printing colors must be kept in relation to the production output. The cable must come to a complete stop for every printing sequence; the actual printing time for each print takes 1 - 2 seconds, depending on the size of the text or logo.

• Inkjet-Printer
  
  With inkjet printing, a large number of drops of equal size are shot at high frequency onto the surface to be printed. The main advantage of inkjet printing is the continuous printing process. Depending on the character size, typeface and resolution, running the processing machine at maximum speed is possible. Several resolutions are offered with various printing head models. Even with achievable resolutions lower than 200 dpi, in most cases the printing quality is sufficient.
  
  
  However, every printing color requires adequate treatment of the ink and therefore cannot be changed easily and without machine or printing head modification, i.e. the purchase of an additional printer for every other color is necessary.
