The semi-automatic wire twisting machines stand for extended competences in new areas of application. Electric fields radiate from all electrical wires, cables and equipment. Magnetic fields are created when electric current flows through a conductor. These magnetic fields can be reduced by the use of insulated wires, coaxial cables or laying the cable in tubes made of conducting material.
It is far less material-intensive, yet very effective, to twist two or more wires together. This advantageous technique has already been put to use for many years in data engineering, in order to keep radiation of the signals to a minimum whilst at the same time retaining a high electromagnetic immunity. The stability of insulated cable is increased through the twisting process. The application possibilities are also increasing in the car industry.
The new WireTwist 500 and WireTwist 1000 wire twisting machines have been developed with the support of experienced wire twisting specialists, to include the very latest in technology. Both semi-automatic machines can be used to twist two or more individual wires with cross-sections of 0.22 – 2.5 mm² (23 – 13 AWG).
With the standard gripper system, the ends of the individual wires can be held and twisted. The gripper system can accommodate wire ends which have terminals and/or weather seals on them. Once the operator loads the wire into the gripper system, the drive-shaft rotates and completes the twisting process. The difference between the two machine models lies in operator-comfort, the length of wire which can be processed, the gripper system and in the twisting process itself.
WireTwist 500 Twisting Machine
The WireTwist 500 is the more compact, but more flexible unit. This two-part benchtop machine processes wire lengths of 450 – 2'000 mm (17.72" - 78.74") as standard. With longer wires up to approx. 5'000 mm (196.85"), an additional guide element keeps the wires centered during twisting.

The machine is simple to set up and to operate: the operator can set the most important parameters via a keyboard and a multi-line display. As well as the number of turns for the twisting and the following reverse turns, the forward and reverse speeds can be preset, relative to the maximum motor speed.
WireTwist 1000 Twisting Machine
With the operator comfort of the WireTwist 1000, Schleuniger sets new standards in the area of semi-automatic twisting machines. The most up-to-date length-measuring and control technology and a height-adjustable base frame, make working with this machine simple and comfortable even for inexperienced personnel. In the standard version, wires from 0.3 to 4 m (0.98 - 13.12 ft) can be processed. Two extension modules make it possible to process lengths up to 7 m or 10 m (22.97 - 32.81 ft) respectively. The untwisted wire ends can be 25 – 200 mm (0.98" - 7.87") long.
The integrated length-measuring system is a special highlight. On the one hand, it serves as an aid to the operator in setting up, in that it marks the new slitting position optically for job-changes. On the other hand, after the twisting process, the system checks that the twisted length meets the required specifications.
A modern touch-screen user-interface allows the input and job-specific storage of all parameters. Preparation times are reduced to a minimum, because the positioning of the gripper system is also saved in memory with the job.

The twisting process can take place in two different ways. In one case, the operator stipulates a certain twist-length, which is then calculated and applied by the control system. In the other case, a stipulated finished twisted length can be produced. The twist-drive revolves until this is reached, then stops. There are integrated counters for lot size and the total number of pieces. Diverse accessories allow for even greater operator comfort and extended application possibilities. .
With the introduction of the WireTwist 500 and WireTwist 1000 twisting machines, Schleuniger achieves a further important addition to their product portfolio. The combination of the latest in technology and user-friendly designs are sure to make these two new machines successful on the market.
